Ute Agency Crofton informs Page of information he has learned about the recent killing of two white men by Utes and Pah Utes. July 1, 1881 Page, Henry, Agent, So. Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Page informs the commissioner of the events surrounding the murder of two white men. Southern Ute and Pah Utes were accused of the murders and citizens attempted to avenge the deaths. ( text is difficult to read) July 6, 1884 Patten, Warren, Agent, So. Ute Agency Letter to Major Hall, Ft. Lewis Patten has met with So. Ute Chiefs and they know nothing of the recent fight between Indians and whites. They say their people were not involved. July 7, 1884 Patten, Warren, Agent, So. Ute Agency Letter to J. F. Gardner, Agent, Ouray Agency The Moache and Capotes want to inform the Indians at the Ouray agency that they had nothing to do with the recent troubles in Utah, during which four Indians were killed and three white men were wounded. July 8, 1884 Mitchell, H. L., Mitchell's Ranch, Utah Letter to Warren Patten, So. Ute Agency Mitchell informs Patten of Indian/ white conflict in Montezuma Canyon over cattle grazing, Indian theft and pillage, and requests Patten take appropriate action. |
