Report to George C Vaux Reports inspection of agency and school. Reports conditions on reservation, the Polk and Posey situation, the new boarding school, health conditions, impoverishment of Indians, need to encourage stock raising, and housing improvements. NA/ RG75 May 24, 1923 Meritt, E. B., Asst. Commissioner Letter to E. E. McKean, Supt., Con. Ute Agency Reports two Ute Mountain boys as unfit to attend school. Supv., Indian School Inspection Report, Ute Mountain School Reports material plant is adequate with the exception of the water supply. Recommends well to be drilled near school. Reports a passing rate of only 52%. Recommends transfering 9 pre-vocational students. Reports girls are receiving good trainin. The boys have suffered from a lack of competent instructors. Recommends a band be developed and funds provided for instruments. The Mancos farm has a good dairy herd supplying the school, but the garden is not producing. Reports coal is mined close by.
