Agent Annual Report of the Dept. of the Interior Fiscal Year ended June 30, 1905 Agent gives condition of the reservation for past year and status of funds held in trust, receipts and disbursements on account of Indian lands, income of tribe, population and educational statistics in regards to the Colorado Utes. Lewis School Letter to Mrs. Virginia McClurg, Colorado Springs Indians at Navajo Springs are refusing to sign for rations because they fear they are being swindled, and Peterson adds, " I can't say I blame them for thinking so." Jan. 21, 1905 Smith, Joseph 0., Supt., Southern Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Report on letter concerning Indians committing depredations on game and stock in San Juan County, Utah. Agent informs commissioner that none of tribe is on hunting expedition. He believes Piutes living in the area may be the ones to blame. Awaits further instructions. Indian population in that County is large and not all of them are enrolled anywhere, making jurisdiction over them questionable. Indians cannot live on the reservation permanently, due to lack of water |
