Ute Agency] Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs To correct the accounts in the public press, McKean sends his version of the Mormon Joe, Piatt May baby killing affair, ( last page missing) NA/ RG75/ 27 086- 1925- Con Ute 175 June (?), 1926 [ Burke, Chas. H.], Commissioner of Indian Affairs Memorandum for the Secretary Encloses: A report from Colorado Dept. of Justice regards Joseph Salt, a Ute Indian boy who mysteriously disappeared from the Ute Mountain Indian School on Oct. 10, 1925. The report discounts possible foul play by Max Buffalo and finds no trace of the boy. Speculation is that he is being hid by Indians until school is out or that he died in the mountains. NA/ RG75/ 4335- 1926- Con Ute 821 Mar. 22, 1938 Lyman, Karl R., County Atty, San Juan County Letter to Leo Chism (?), Agent, Towaoc Agent is requested to inform Hays Clark and Harry Wall of their court trial date. The two men were charged with trafficking of peyote in Utah. Mar. 24, 1938 Lyman, K. R., County Atty, San Juan Letter to Lyle Cutting, Agent, Towaoc Due to Chism's absence, cutting is requested to notify Harry Wall and Hays Clark of their trial date for dealing in peyote. Lyman suggests informing the tribal chief who " would exert a great deal of effort" in assuring their presence at the trial. |
