Water supply reported to be limited but potential existing in spring on northwest corner of the grounds. LaPlata River deemed inadvisable water source due to contamination from Hesperus and LaPlata City, as well as tailings from stamp- mill in LaPlata City Apr. 4, 1904 Supt., Ft. Lewis School Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Supt. countered accusations against the employees at Navajo Springs, vouching for the efficiency and honesty of Mr. Bluff, clerk. He also denied allegations that Lamb, the contract physician, had been supplying Indians with whiskey. The Supt. referred to water situation as " well known... condition which can be improved." July 12, 1904 Peterson, W. M., Supt., Ft. Lewis School Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs The supt. discusses government allowances for positions at Ft. Lewis School, and requests extra amount for position of tailor to be filled by a Navajo boy. The Supt. reports on scarcity of girls at the school. July 13, 1904 Peterson, W. M., Supt., Ft. Lewis School Letter to Capt. Nicolas, T. O'Brien, Timber Inspector, Denver Supt. wrote to Capt. O'Brien at suggestion of Major W. W. Daugherty. The Supt enclosed a letter for information re: military ditch at the School, to be forwarded to Capt. R. A. Torry of the 13th Infantry. |
