Ute Agency The boys were glad to receive Patten's letter. They have used their money to buy " many strange things" and Bryan advises that they should receive only 50 cents a week. James Allen has written two letters to his people, one in which he urges them " to make gardens," which Bryan thinks is a " very promising sign after only 1 1/ 2 month's schooling. He wants Patten to keep his beaded leggings at his house until he returns. " I like it here - it is a good place." Aug. 10, 1883 Patten, Warren, Agent, So. Ute Agency Report to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Hand written copy of Patten's annual report on conditions at the agency. He comments on stock raising, the lack of inclination toward farming, recruitment for the school, lack of sickness, civilization, Indian Police, agency buildings and supplies, which are not sufficient in quantity.
