Ute Agency McChesney was directed to end updated roll to Mar. 1, 1913, before final payment of $ 100,000, under Act of Aug. 24, 1912, could be received. Uniformity of payments at the three agencies considered essential. Mar. 4, 1913 Hawke, C. F., Acting Commissioner Letter to Stephen Abbot, Supt., So. Ute School Abbott is reminded to revise Ute roll for Mar. 1, 1913, for submittance to Office, in order to finalize payment of $ 100,000 and assure equal payments at the different Ute agencies. Apr. 13, 1913 Davis, Chas., Supt., Uintah & Ouray Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Discusses use of interest payments of $ 3,305,257.19 fund, granted to Con. Bands of Ute Indians by Court of Claims on Feb. 13, 1911. He believes per capita payment doesn't aid Utes toward self- supporting status. He examines needs of Utes in Uintah & Ouray, Navajo Springs, and So. Ute agencies, including concerns for efficient housing, tendency toward disease, and economical use of land. Utes would lose preferential water rights by July, 1919, unless allotted lands are cultivated. Acreage of land and nature of allottees described. Proposes investment of interest payments toward cultivation of land and development of livestock. May 11, 1914 Runke, Walter, Supt., So.
