The first brood, which appears in March and April, does not differ materially from the European form, but the succeeding broods increase both in size and intensity of colour. I bred a fine series of vars. asiatica and hippocrates from ova deposited by a female P. machaon of the ordinary type in April at Nagasaki. The imagos appeared during the end of June and beginning of Julv, some specimens had the usual proportion of hlack |
