We want to perpetuate the untque aquatfc ecosystemgof Utah Lake! In a developing world, we believe these natural resources will become of increasing importance to .a harrassed world. ate WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT THE CUP .' *#-i i / * ' **» Stefe Vu £*• Costly, federally developed water projects do not permit the variety of needs the people of this nation demand. the CUP is a wasteful and costly luxury for Utah the nation cannot afford. - CUP development Is an environmental disaster of the first magnitude. - manipulations of the water developers continue to be unjust to the Ute Tribe, to water users, to taxpayers, to Agencies responsible for manag ing public resources, -^the State Division of Wildlife Resources, the U.S.Forest Service, the U.S.Fish & Wildlife Service - and to many university natural resources specialists. Above all - to the nation's recreation public. WHAT WE HAVE DONE ABOUT OUR BELIEFS Opened up the wall of silence so we can have public discussion of environmental concerns, unneeded costs, the value and many purposes of the nation's waters. - published a 200 page document with independent cost calculations and alternatives - held TV and public meetings - publicly challenged the Bureau with our own cost questionnaire - provided information to elected officials in Utah and in Washington, to Administration staffs, and to environmental groups concerned with water projects WHAT WE PLAN WHAT ARE OUft TOOLS - Our tools are Federal and State laws and a National Policy for Water Use. - the Clean Water Act requires State classification of its water and non-degradation conditions - the Clean Water Act requires State IdentificsfcLon of Outstanding National Resource Waters - the Administration Water Policy requires cooperation between State and Federal Agencies in seeking non-structural alternatives, conservation measures, instream flow legislation. - Our plan is to make the tools work!
