Show -Ills contacting them and under what circumstances information supplied will be used. - The Colorado River Basin Coalition, as umbrella organization, is broad enough to elicit confidence in the above situations which is sometimes lacking for individual organization use. 5. There may be a stronger base for developing local group Interest in some of the Basin conflict issues with the availability of different member groups information resources. 6. A Coalition might be able to "take the heat off" national organizations wishing to take stronger stands on issues than their memberships might publicly support. 7. The existence of a Coalition would provide a handle for addressing a number of issues which are falling through the cracks: protection of historic areas such as cattle trails and cowboy hideouts which are associated with natural resources of value; of migrating corridors of Big Game species to historic areas of winter range; of ancestral reproductive sites of sage grouse; of antelope habitat; of determining interconnections for wildlife between Indian and non-Indian lands; of protecting other tributary rivers' instream flows. In order to assess the interest and value of a Coalition on the Colorado River Basin resource, I have included a questionnaire for you to complete and return. Supplemental information can be written on a separate page. Those organizations with whom I have worked, at local levels In the Rockies and in Washington, already know my background, concerns, desire to be working in the west, and abilities to work with many kinds of concerned people; environmental groups, State, Federal, University and private research staffs. Those who want information about me can be supplied this. Organizations wishing to make specific suggestions, should do so. These could relate to the names of organizations your organization works most successfully with(which I may not have reached), and/or to sources of other kinds of support. The Colorado River Basin Coalition concept was proposed at a concluding meeting of attendees at the 1979 National Dam Conference interested in Colorado River issues - mostly water developments. We've all been too busy - with our individual environmental issues - to get it off the ground. The time is at hand to do this. Sincerely, ( J Dorothy Harvey Founding Member Citizens Proposal for a High Uintas Wilderness and Coalition Citizens for a Responsible CUP and National Co-Chairman Colorado River Basin Coalition |
