Show Grazing by domestic livestock on sovereign lands around the lake will be considered after determining the affect on wildlife and habitats. Grazing can have a negative impact on birds, especially during the nesting and brooding seasons. In other habitat types experience has demonstrated that appropriate grazing needs to comply with a plan containing objectives and stipulations so that other resource values are not adversely impacted 12.0 TRANSPORTATION 12.1 Designate roads, causeways and utility corridors The preferred alternative received support from the majority of the respondents. Respondents agreed that the state should keep using existing corridors and not to support the AISP South Causeway. The few that supported alternative C had a strong interest in intra- lake transportation proposals. " Legacy Parkway" could be built on a causeway from the area northwest of the SLCIA out to Antelope Island, along the eastern side and then to Fremont Island on to Promontory Point following the peninsula to Thiokol and Tremonton. Roads and Jills across GSL have water quality impacts due to restricting water circulation and resulting changes in salinity. The southern causeway fill to AISP should not be considered. The state should close any further discussion of the southern causeway fill to AISP and justify it with the ultimate consideration being given to the optimal biological productivity of the lake. We agree with the state in not supporting the southern causeway fill for the following reasons: - Access only through one causeway makes AISP a more highly treasured, more attractive destination as well as more easily managed. - Tourism entities in Davis County as well as numerous conservation groups are supportive of this recommendation. - A variety of activities could make the south shore of the lake a more educational and desirable place to visit. - A roadway to AISP from the south would directly conflict with National Audubon's Gillmor Sanctuary property unless it was built on sovereign lands from 1- 80. Impacts on sovereign lands would be costly and unacceptable in regard to public trust resource protection. We are strongly opposed to this unnecessary and damaging proposed roadway. Measures to balance north and south arm salinity should be also considered with the transportation alternatives in this document. 325 |
