Show 9. Recreation and Tourism - Land 9.1 Develop opportunities on sovereign lands for off- highway vehicles. CS. No OHV use allowed on sovereign lands. A. Limit recreational OHV use on state WMAs and sovereign lands in accordance with WMA management plans and those of other adjacent land managers and landowners. Consider additional access in particular areas. Under this alternative sovereign land in TUN, R11W would immediately be open to OHV use in accordance with the access management plan for west Box Elder County. B. No OHV use on sovereign lands. C. Open all state lands for OHV use except where excluded in specific management plans. 9.2 Improve recreational opportunities and access. CS. Support and recommend only AISP, WMAs and URMCC recreation enhancement strategies. A. Provide additional hiking, biking, trails and picnic access and opportunities. Possibilities include: a day- use area at the southeast end of Magcorp's dike on Stansbury Island; a day use area on land acquired by Weber County on Little Mountain; additional trails at AISP; additional public access to the Spiral Jetty at Rozel Point; and additional public access to the Little Valley harbor. B. Same as A, except add an automobile route around GSL. Under this alternative DNR would work with the railroad to provide public access from Lakeside to Hogup Ridge to complete the automobile route. The rest of the route would use existing public roads. C. No additional access. 9.3 Improve education and interpretation opportunities. CS. Use existing opportunities Farmington Bay, BRMBR, Saltair and AISP. A. Improve existing and develop new education and interpretation opportunities ( geology, industry brine shrimp/ salt extraction, cultural, wildlife, etc.). Coordinate with URMCC and others regarding Little Mountain, Rozel Point, Kelton, Locomotive Springs, Timpie Springs and cultural resource management at river deltas. 169 |
