Show 3. Water Quality Current Situation ( CS) Alternative A Alternative B Alternative C 3.1 Develop a strategy to ensure water quality protection for GSL ecosystem. Feasibility/ Effectiveness Narrative standards are developed, applied and implemented. DNR would need to invest time and money to actively participate with DWQ in improving specific narrative standards. DNR recommends acquiring funding to conduct studies to improve our knowledge base. Expensive to develop new methodology. Literature regarding pollutant impacts on GSL is very limited. Would require huge financial investment in sampling, monitoring and analysis. Same as CS. Possible Impacts Would not provide the highest level of protection. Some short and long- term improvement in water quality protection. Improved and more measurable standards. Would provide the highest level of protection. Same as CS. Conflicts/ Coordination DWR and DFFSL would like to see standards for GSL and some of its tributaries changed. DNR would need to be actively involved in establishing more specific narrative standards. If necessary reevaluate the adequacy of the regulatory framework in protecting GSL resources. Funding partners required. Might require best available retrofit technology to maintain compliance. Conducting necessary studies and required compliance would be very expensive. Same as CS. Public Trust/ Protection Potential for standards to become ineffective as water quality deteriorates. Might not provide the highest level of protection of public trust resources. Some short and long- term improvement in water quality and public trust resource use and protection. Would provide the highest level of protection of water quality and public trust resources. Same as CS. 184 |
