Show 14 . , .. 6 !!l!. ASSASSIN System ASSASSIN is the software systm described in tnis thesis. It treats the issues of·linguistic specification, fUnctional simulation, and compilation to silicon of speed-independent control-units implemented using a speed-independent version of Hollaar 's One-Hot technique. It consists of a specification language - the Speed- Independent Control-Unit Description Language (SICUDL), a functional simUlator and a silicon compiler and Pat.h Programmable Logic (PPL) generator. It approaches the VLSI design problem from a different perspective - a possibly speed-independent future. It attempts to deal with the timing problem inherent in clocked systems by using a self-timed systems discipline. It attacks the problem of control-unit generation. It provides a simple linguistic user interface for control-unit design using SICUDL, functional simulation, and compilation. All tnree modules use a common EMODE [1] based user interface embedded in PSL [21, 28, 29, 30, 31 J. The use of PSL as an implementation language is significant and is elaborated upon in chapter '6. The major contributions of this work are: 1. The technology independent linguistic specification of speed-independent one-hot control-units, .. 2. The development of algorithms for functional simulation of speed-independent one-hot contrOl-units, 3. The development of algorithms for efficiently mapping speed-independent one-hot control-units onto PPL, |
