Lewis School Letter to Tom Mcculloch, Durango Peterson informed McCulloch that a team of Navajo Indians would work on the Animas ditch and set work schedule. Oct. 19, 1904 Peterson, W. M., Supt., Ft. Lewis School Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Peterson explained need for school sawmill, planing mill, and shingle machine. Peterson describes condition of Navajos on the Reservation, stating the scarcity of work and the necessity of his locating work for them after leaving the school. Farm work assessed to be scarce along the San Juan River. May 25, 1905 Custer, Burton B., Supt., So. Ute Agency Letter to Charles Duff, Clerk, Navajo Springs Agency Custer sends a check to James Mills for work done on the ditch. Work will start on the Piedra Ditch on Monday and James may work on it, if he wishes. June 10, 1905 Peterson, W. M., Supt., Ft. Lewis Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Peterson responds to the commissioner's request for information about the agency.
