M., Supt., Fort Lewis School Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Peterson asks the commissioner if he has jurisdiction over those Utes who have property on both sides of the Animas River. Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Smith submits references of two potential farm hands, praising them for upright moral character. Smith states that the Utes displayed little aptitude for farming. Smith also refers to Colorado as " a state where farms are absolutely worthless without irrigation." Ute Agency Letter to Supt., Indian Warehouse, Chicago, Illinois Smith acknowledges receipt of flour and has sent on that portion intended for the Navajo Springs agency.
