Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Smith acknowledges receipt of instruction to relieve two Mexican assistant farmers and hire Indians in their place. S., Commissioner of Indian Affairs Letter to Secretary of the Interior The commissioner is requesting permission to divide the Southern Ute Agency and appoint the superintendent of the Fort Lewis Indian Training School as the agent for the western portion.
