Show Agencies - 4 Report to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs Weaver reports several buildings erected, received letter of removal of Indians, notes Indians in bad spirit on account of 9th Cavalry presence investigating alleged Indian depredations. He also reports that it is difficult to obtain Capote and Weeminuche band census and that military officers have arrived for negotiation with Utes for their removal from this part of the Ute reservation. S. S. # 1850 Aug. 23, 1878 Hoyt, E. A., Commissioner Letter to F. H. Weaver, So. Ute Agency Commissioner wants agent to reconsider his resignation. Congress has made provision for increasing salaries of agents in charge of consolidated agencies, for which Weaver qualifies. Sept. 30, 1878 Hoyt, E. A., Commissioner Letter to Francis H. Weaver, So. Ute Agency Agent is informed that his successor has been appointed and will assume the duties of the agency upon his arrival. Sept. 23, 1879 Eastman, Galen, U. S. Indian Agent, Navajo Agency Letter to Henry Page, U. S. Indian Agent, So. Ute Colorado Seeks Page's help in resolving the matter of a Ute Indian shooting at Julian, a Navajo. Eastman hopes the matter can be settled by the agents in a peaceable way so that the Indians will not " seek revenge & redress according to former barbarian usages and butcher each other."
