Show Mid-January was the time set for this year's annual Military Ball. Although sponsored by the combined military services, the dance was open to civilians and military personnel alike, as evidenced by the intermixing of uniforms and dress suits.Louis Armstrong and his All-Stars, interpretive jazz artists, serenaded the Utes throughous the entire evening. The same Louis ArmstrongHighlight of the intermission was the Grande Promenade in which all military men and their partners were asked to participate. Starting at one end of the long union ball-. ywho has entertained leaders and royalty in Europe, Asia, and Africa, captured the hearts of everyone there. Many forgot to dance, finding his clear trumpet and sandpaper voice irresistable.Each of the branches of military service represented on campus chose a queen to represent their branch. At the dance, fair-haired Sally Breinholt was chosen from the three to reign as theMilitary Ball CommitteeChairman: Lawrence Bell Ingmar Njus Dieter Kaisercombined operations queen. She was sponsored by the Army. Her attendants were Karen Larson, Navy sponsored, and Shauna Seal, the choice of the Air Force.t^^^^Bz............................^£4S53?_*........... IKr *room, Dr. and Mrs. Olpin led the march along with Mr. Royden Derrick, chairman of the Board of Regents.Greeting guests at the first of the dance were Lawrence Bell, cadet Commander of the Air Force, Midshipman Captain James Blacksher of the Navy, and Colonel David Jennings of the Army. |
