Show mtA typical day's activities during "Spotlight on Brazil" included a special Brazilian luncheon. Following the tasteful specialties, students in attendance were entertained by Carmen Costa, Brazilian vocalist and Jose Paulo, guitarist. In the afternoon the director of the Brazilian Government Tirade Bureau, J. P. do Rio Branco participated in an economic seminar together with prominent members of faculty. Concluding the day's activities was a film titled "The Amazon" which was narrated and presented by Dr. Campbell W. Pennington.Mervin L. Bahan, former ambassador to Brazil and one of the many distinguished speakers, stated that the Alliance for Progress could work in Brazil but that a bridge must be established between the United States and the underdeveloped countries of Latin America.Dr. C. Gregory Crampton, professor of history, helped to trace the Brazilian profile during one of the Spotlight lectures. It was noted that the Brazilian westward expansion parallels westward movements in the United States, and as a result, the typical Brazilian has come to be a product of the frontier.169 |
