Show Chivalry may have been dead once, but on the night of Feb-ruary 23, it was restored by the Junior Class officers: Paul Keller, Mike Hurd, Sue Griff en, Dave Jensen, Jeff Circuit, and Milt Morris; as their theme for the Junior Prom-, "The Reign of Chivalry." For the event the center ballrom was transformed into a medieval castle by the decorations committee ably directed by Jill Stallings, chairman; and Don Armstrong, Karen Cheney, Linda Clark, Diane Hague, Sheryl Larsen, Lavelle Ridd, and Karen Stoker, subchairmen. Couples attending the dance, upon crossing a small drawbridge entered a symmetrical courtyard garden of hedges and flowers, in the center of which stood a gilded fountain with myriads of lights playing on its sprays. Surrounding the garden were the castle walls adorned by blood-red murals of chivalrous knights warding off dragons. From castle turrets, bright medieval flags flew. Four circular chandeliers, hung with flags, lighted the ballroom in the fashion of the middle ages. The theme of chivalry included the conversion of the Panorama Room into a castle room complete with armor and shields of the by-gone era. During the evening in this stately atmosphere, refreshments of cherry tarts and favors of silk purses were furnished the escorts and their dates by committee chairmen Rebecca Summers and Carole Cooper. The intermission was far removed from the knightly surroundings as the "Limelighters" presented a laugh-filled musical half-hour of lively folk tunes and ballads. The highlight of the intermission came when upon a balcony decorated in banners and guarded by two armored knights, the lovely Junior Prom Queen for 1962, Miss Suzanne Hubbard, was presented. Her equally lovely attendants were Sue Griffen, Maureen McCarthy, Sue Miracle, and Ann Piper. |
