It seems equally fitting that such a player should lead his team to a final league championship, and at the same time, see them garner a high ranking among the nation's finest basketball teams. Such a player is Billy McGill, and such a team is the 1961-62 University of Utah Redskins. A statement of McGill's final statistics would be repeti-tious, but it seems necessary to mention a few of his major accomplishments: McGill became the first Ute in history to lead the country in scoring, he was placed on the first team of every All-American worthy of mention, and his 60 points against B.Y.U. was the best collegiate effort of the season. Perhaps the highest praise that can come to any player is that of his coach: McGill's career accomplishmens have prompted Ute Coach Jack Gardner to remark, "There may never be another shooter as great as McGill in our time." |
