Show Acclaimed as one of the country's outstanding college symphonies, the University of Utah Symphony poured forth both exciting and unusual melodies during their on and off campus performances. The major portion of the symphony's works were performed in the Mormon Tabernacle, among these including such well known pieces as Overture to Oberon, Don Juan, and the Outdoor Overture. The vigor of the music was wrought from the enthusiasm of the musicians, some performing strictly for their own enjoyment.Under this completely student directed organization, members are afforded excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in symphonic repertoire. Individual members were encouraged to present original compositions for public examination. The orchestra is, for many of its members, a stepping stone to the Utah Symphony. In the final analysis, this enterprising group of musicians credit much of their success to the skillful direction of Dr. Leroy Robertson. |
