Show The 11th annual spring Ballet Gala came to life in Kingsbury Hall in early May. William Christensen, director' of the University Theater Ballet and Gordon Paxman, leading soloist and faculty member joined in presenting the cultural dance event. Harold Wolfe, musical director of the University Theater Ballet, joined the dance group to lead the Utah Symphony Orchestra in the enchanting music of the Gala. Cast along with star, Gordon Paxman, were Sallie Caroton, Patricia Knight, Wayne Brennan Phil Keeler, Miriam Harding, Karen Shores, Rowland Butler, Fred Schwab, Janice James, Shirley White, Bill Evans and Rocky Spoelstra.Four major dance works were on the ballet program. They included "Swan Lake," acts 2 and 4, "The Garden of Evil," "La Fille Naive," and "Blue Bird Pas de Deux" from "Sleeping Beauty." The first touch of classical rhythm brought to life in this year's Gala was "Swan Lake." This ballet, set to music by Tchaikovsky, cast a spell of magic over the opening number of the performance. In this number a prince and his friends set out to hunt swans on the shore of a lake only to find that the swans turned into beautiful maidens. The queen of the swans fell in love with the prince and a tale of evil magic was unfolded.<€?£ZZ |
