Show The 1962 Golf Team included Bob Droz, Dave Benbow, Jeff Perkins, Wally Curry, Mike Mc-Guire, Mike Merback, Lynn Ellsworth, Ken Ellsworth, Jim Gaddis, Jerry Howells, Larry Stowe, Roger Wood, Craig Dunford, Carl Frampton and Lee Neslen.Vennie McGuire is in his second year as the University of Utah golf coach. Last campaign, in his first year as head mentor, Vinnie's team won the Western Division title and placed third in the Skyline Conference.With the Utes entering the new Western Conference next year, where golf is as tough as in any collegiate league in the nation, they will need all the help a top professional such as McGuire can give them.Lost from last season's Western Division championship squad are Jim Ellsworth, who was the Utes' number one man, and Tom Pence, another top performer. Back to bolster the club are letermen Bob Droz, Larry Stowe, Dave Benbow, and Jerry Howells.McGuire feels that the Utes are stronger this year and are strong contenders for the Western Division Championship, but as usual, New Mexico, the perennial Skyline champ, will be the team to beat.V K* |
