She is touring the USA and speaking at private schools and clubs. to Coffee break 10:15 - 10:30 a.m. The panel on the Status of Women was introduced by Irene Warr, leqislc+ion chairman, who acted as moderator. Edith Shaw gave a brief over-all report of what has been done and what is hoped wi II be done by the Governor's Committee. Gov. Rampton has requested the same committee to serve unti I Ju Iy I, 1966, and they have all consented. Irene Parson reported on employment practices and policies. Judith Whitmer, attorney, who is now serving as reference attorney for the State Senate, reported on the lega I status of women and community servi ces. Irene Warr read the National Legislative Platform which was adopted in Detroit and the State Legislative Platform adopted at the Utah State Convention in Moab. . A financia I report on the Statos of Women Committee report was made. Fourteen clubs have contributed. A tota I of $302 from stamp books and cash has been paid so far, and more books and money were turned in at this meeting. Marg Ann Bradshaw of Beaver, a student who attended the Youthpower Conference, played the piano during lunch. The meeting reconvened at 1 :30 in the Jr. Ballroom. Leah Dunford was asked to give her report on the Youthpower--USA Conference held on January 23. To begin with, three students who attended gave their reactions to the conference: Ron Carlson, West High, So lf Lake City, reported on the Free Enterprise session; Kristine Farrer of Beaver on Morals and Ethics; and Jimmy Bowden of Vernal (Uintah High) covered the Leadersh ip session. Leah reported that 125 students from 59 schools attended. She encouraged clubs to conduct conferences on a loca I basis and made suggestions for what might be done. Ade Iyn Logan reviewed the action at the 1964 State Convention authorizing out that the the establishment of a Foundation within the Federation. of of the under the Utah, would Federation, incorporation include the provision that we could accept tax-free gifts, etc., which complies with Internal Revenue regulations and accomplishes the same purpose as anticipated for the Foundation. Upon motion by Irene Parson and seconded, it was unanimously voted to set aside the Articles of Incorporation of the Foundation and instead incorporate the Utah Federation of Business and Professiona I Women's Clubs, subject to ratification by the convention Irene Warr volunteered her services for the necessary legal work. President Frances urged clubs to go ahead now with their Youthpower conferences and not wait so that the fu Ilest benefit cou Id be derived from the experience of the students who attended the state conference. Joyce Frisby conducted the programming portion of the program, emphasizing sharemanship. In the absence of civic participation chairman Maude Ogden, Mrs. Adelia Gold of the Ensign Club introduced Mr. Bruce Jenkins who talked about activity on Capitol Hi II. The world affairs section was omitted. Internationa I Week was announced for February 14-20. |
