Smith, Agent Writer sends purchase estimate of timber on 18 allotments to agent for his review. Person would sell timber and proceeds would benefit the Indians. Sept. 11, 1903 Smith, Joseph O., Indian Agent, So. Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Smith acknowledges receipt of letter pertaining to the leasing of Indian allotments for grazing purposes. FRCD/ RG 75 Jan. (?), 1904 Supt., Ft. Lewis School Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Supt. acknowledges receipt of office letter on Education. This letter to have contained petition by So. Ute Indians against division lines segregating their reservation. Jan. 7, 1904 Tones, W. A., Commissioner of Indian Affairs Letter to Joseph 0. Smith, So. Ute Agency The Commissioner reviewed land allotments of the Moaches and Capotes settled along east and west of the agency in the LaPlata and on the Pine and Piedra Rivers. The Weeminuche tribe remained separate, refusing involvement with other Utes. The Commissioner orders that the segregation of the reservation remained unchanged, according to previous orders. |
