Show Land - 437 R., W., Supt., So. Ute Agency Letter to Covery, Claude C , Supt., Navajo Springs The supt. informs Covery of hearings to determine heirs for the estate of Peabody, Bird, Allen, and Burch at the So. Ute Agency. Relatives and interested parties to be served with notice of hearings. Dec. 5, 1913 R., W., Supt., So. Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Supt. reports on the general condition of the Utes and specific status of allotments. Most Utes located in Pine River Valley and sharing land as many were given tracts difficult to cultivate. The office's stated policy was to concentrate Utes in Valley. Land sale of unused allotments to government discussed. Construction of new irrigation canal, supervised by H. F. Robinson, to area of Ute dwellings reported. Allottees with land in outlying areas were encouraged to sell land because of timber and non- agriculture resources. Proceedings of land heirship case discussed. Supt. requests permission to use " Ute Judgement Fund" for agricultural development. Ute monies received from land sale to be directed toward farming. Dec. 5, 1913 Runke(?), Walter, Supt., So. Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs The superintendent informs the commissioner that many Indians do not live on their allotted lands, so he suggests that these lands be sold and land of better quality be purchased.
