Show Inter- Tribal Relations - 3 65 Sept. 1, 1883 Stanley, Colonel Commanding, Fort Lewis, Colorado Telegram to Warren Patten, Indian Agent, Ignacio Stanley informs Patten that he has sent an officer and 24 men after the Utes and Navajo who are accused of murdering Peter Tracy. FRCD/ RG 75 Sept. 3, 1883 Stanley, Colonel Commanding, Fort Lewis, Colorado Telegram to Warren Patten, Indian Agent, Ignacio, Colorado Stanley informs Patten that Ignacio and an interpreter have left to gather the facts in the murder of Peter Tracy. He suggests Patten go to Del Norte, " as it will take time to clean up this murder." FRCD/ RG 75 Sept. 3, 1883 " Navajo Murderer Captured" S. L. Tribune (?) Report of the capture of the Navajo Indian that killed Peter Tracy, a ranchman living on the Dolores river in southeastern Utah. Sept. 9, 1883 Guilfoyle, John T., 1st Lt., U. S. Cavalry, San Juan River, Utah Letter to Stephen A. Dole Guilfoyle informs Dole that the Navajos are accusing the Ute and Piutes of Tracy's murder, however, he believes the Navajo are responsible. He suggests that Dole let the Utes know what the Navajo are saying about them. In regard to the previous " vandalized" letter, Guilfoyle has discovered it was opened by " native Americans," who he claims are as bad as the Indians.
