May 2, 1908 Wood, J. H.(?) Sheriff, San Juan County Testimony Utes assisted by Navajos in resisting arrest. Utes attitude toward arrest; one arrest viewed as offence to entire band. Utes " claim right to settle all disputes of their own." Wood associated Indians with white criminal elements and recommended Indians would be more " civilized" by farming than stock- raising.
