The Indians are gathering to entertain them with dancing and feasting. Names of those visiting are listed. July 17, 1900 Smith, Joseph O., Indian Agent, So. Ute Agency Letter to Walter Graves Smith writes to Graves, who is responsible for the irrigation systems of the different Indian reservations, pleading with him to look in to the construction of a system for the So. Ute Indians, who were promised an irrigation system five years ago and have yet to see any water. Smith describes conditions on the reservation as very impoverished and that the Southern Utes are becoming increasingly discontent, arguing with each other and threatening the life of Ignacio, who had encouraged them to move to the western end rather than take allotments.
