Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Day encloses a newspaper article about the Durango Board of Trade's accusations that the Southern Ute Indians are being neglected by the government. Day denies this charge and adds that the Board is made up of " individuals who have thrown every obstacle cunning could conceive or rascality incubate in way of faithful compliance with law and instruction." Day states that rations are at the agency for those on the western end of reservation who refused to take land in severalty. NA, RG 75, BIA/ 505 Oct. 29, 1896 Wilson, William L., Postmaster General Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Wilson responds to David Day's request that the mail route be diverted so as to pass through Navajo Springs. Wilson says such a diversion is impossible because there is no post- office at Navajo Springs. Attached is the acting commissioner's letter forwarding this information to Day. Ute Agency Letter to Commissioner of Indian Affairs Smith requests funds to build a house for Ignacio, who is old. Smith justifies his request by |
