Show HISTORIC USES OF THE EPHRAIM CO-OP The Ephraim Co-op was the center of ecclesi astical, civil, judi cal, educational, and entertainment actiVities of the Sanpete Valley. It was the meeting place of the Stake Hi p,h Council, which was the highest local governing body in both religious and ciVil srrairs. How early it served this purpose may be found froM the L. D. S. Church Historian's Office. We know it was the High Council's place of meeting from some recently discovered records that cover a ten year period from Oct. 29, 1892 to Sept. 27, 1902. Civil and criminal trials as well as religious matters are recorded in the minutes of this governing body. (See Attached duplicates of pages 4, 85, and 103.) The second floor of the Co-op was originally used by the Womens' Relief Society and was referred to as Society Hall. After the Sanpete Academy took over the second floor in November of 1888 it eventually became known as Academy Hall. |
