Show 85 Dr. Armand J. Eardley, Head Of the Department of Geology, and one of the University's outstanding DR. EARDLEY APPOINTED TO NATIONAL faculty members, has been appointed to the National RESEARCH Research Council of the American Geological Instit ute. Dr. Samuel McLaughlin, whose appointment comes LETTER FROM before the Board today, as Professor and Head of the Department of Elementary Education, replacing Dr. ' Delmar T. Oviatt, who resigned this summer, has DR. SAMUEL McLAUGHLIN CONCERNING RE TIRE MEN T PLAN written concerning the University's retirement plan, from which letter Dr. Durham quoted to the Board as follows: " The T.I.A.A. plan at Utah with a limit of $4500 base, only 5% contributed by the University on the $4500 and a five-year waiting period is almost unbelievable. I have been a member of the Faculty Welfare Committee for years at both N.Y. U. and Cornell, and I never heard of such a restricted plan. It seems incredible. I know of no major institution where a full professor has to wait at all for the institution to make its EEtribution to T. I.A.A. when a professor transfers to a different institution. Under the regulations of A.A. U. P, and of the American Association of Colleges and Universities, a full professor has tenure at once as a full professor when he leaves one institution where lie-has tenureand goes to a different university. That is one of the major bases for full benefits of T. I. A. A. at once. At NeWYork University, the TIAA is sent 15% of a faculty member's full base pay. The University contributes 7 1/2% of the full base salary..- Then too, it pays 1/2 of the cost of $10, 000 life insurance.- We are also affiliated with the Federal Social Security which pays $120. 00 a month to husband and Wife at age 65. The Utah Welfare Fund is very good. " Regent Bamberger arrived. An excerpt from a news article appearing in the October |
