Show 13/40 The Chairman called for the reports of the Vice- VICE- PRESIDENTS PRESENT REPORTS Presidents. The following report was present by Dr. G. Homer Durham, Academic Vice-President: Enrollment 1953 Summer Session-~2233 resident students On September 9 the Registrar's Office reported that 1984 students paid regular residence registration fees for the 1953 Summer Session, plus 249 enrolled in evening residence classes for a total of 2, 233. This is five more than President Olpin's exCellent estimate of 2, 228 reported at the July 8 meeting. August 1 953 Commencement Commencement exercises for 316 graduates were conducted Friday, August 28, 1953, at 7:00 p. m. in the Park Building Plaza. There were 71 graduate degrees: 14 Ph. D. , 2 Ed.D., 14 M.A., 41 M.S., 2 M.F,A,, 5 LL.B. ; and 240 Baccalaureate degrees and certificates in 9 colleges. There were no degrees from the College of Medicine this time. With the 1, 282 total degrees, diplomas, certificates, and commissions conferred in June this makes 1, 598 such for the two commencements--approximately l, 600. This is slightly under the average of 1, 712 per year the past five years. Since 1948 we have been conferring degrees and certificates each year at the following annual average rate; Baccalaureate . .. .......... 1452 Masters and Graduate Certificates 193 M. Average per year . . . 42 25 1712 Enrollment Prospects Autumn Quarter 1953-54 As of September 9, 1953, the Registrar's Office was processing admissions for the autumn quarter about 200 ahead of last year's rate (final enrollment figures were 6, 676 campus, 1, 013 evening residence, 7, 689 total, Autumn, 1952). Mr. Carlston has seen about 200 Korean veteran "G. I, '5" thus far. Arrival of Dr. W. W. Blaesser, new Dean of Students Dr. Blaesser arrived on the campus August 31, |
