Show 20 May 26, 1953 State Board of Examiners State Capitol Building Salt Lake City, Utah Gentlemen: At a recent meeting of the building committee of the Board of Regents of the University of Utah the over-all construction program was discussed, including the men's dormitory which has been authorized by the State Legislature. As your records Will show there is now allocated to the State Building Board (account 607-47-29) the sum of $800, 000 to cover the design and con- struction of the first part, or Phase "A, " of the classroom building° The 1953 Legislature placed this building on the pri- ority list for an additional $700, 000 for the design and construction of the second part or Phase "B. " In designing Phase\"A" many problems have arisen which affect Phase "B" and, conversely, knowing that Phase "B" is to be constructed there are several design problems which affect Phase "A, " In addition it is believed that considerable saving in time and money can be made if both Phases "A" and "B" are designed at the same time, realizing, however, that actual con- struction cannot commence on Phase "B" until money is actually available" This would be handled by having two starting dates and completion dates indicated in the bid sheet with the starting date of Phase "B" being after the estimated date when the money will be available, In View of the foregoing the building committee of the Board of Regents unanimously agreed that a letter be written requesting the Board of Examiners to allocate to the State Building Board sufficient funds from the $800, 000 to cover the costs of archi- tects' fees for Phase "B" in addition to that which is already authorized for Phase "A. " It is estimated that this cost will be approximately $22, 500. Should you need any additional information or desire to discuss any of the details of the design or construction we shall be pleased to hear further from you. Very sincerely yours, A.
