Show Redskins Block for Arnett on End Run UTAH 7 - OREGON 8 A blocked kick, smothered by an aggressive Webfoot linesman as it left the foot of Glen Arnett, and rolling out of the end zone for a safety and two points, enabled Oregon University's polished football machine, thundering mightily down from the northwest, to ride to a sensational 8-7 conquest over a stubborn Utah Redskin who rose to unbelievable heights before surrendering in glorious defeat. A record breaking Homecoming crowd of 20,000, witnessing the intersec-tional clash on October 27th, was constantly brought to its feet in feverish anxiety as the red and white, fighting for victory, smashed through for one touchdown, and then tried valiantly to score another before the final gun sounded. Once before, in the second quarter, the Utah men were stopped five yards short of the goal by the inevitable pistol. Prominent stars of the struggle were eel-like Newell Call, lithe "Brick" Hoggan, the two helmet-less linesmen, McKenzie and Savich, and the sagacious Webfoot ace, Van Vliet. DEL MAR LARSEN HAROLD ROBERTS REX BECKSTEAD Proving to be one of the outstanding triple threat sensations of the conference, Larsen was d vital factor in the success of Utah's 1934 campaign. Bolstering the center of the Redskin defense, Roberts, in his first year at the pivot position, was an unexpected revelation to his coach and critics. One of a quartet of outstanding ends was this rangy junior who saw considerable, action, and shone as an adept pass receiver. Two Hundred Sixty |
