Show UNIVERSITY TRACK PROSPECTS FOR 1936 One main reason why Coach Armstrong has such remarkable success with his teams is that he always looks toward the future. At the close of a season, the graduating members interfere materially with the hopes of the following year. Ike is fortunate this season in having only three men leave the squad. These men will be hard to replace. Captain Howard Greenwell, a consistent point getter in the dashes, George Franks who has proved valuable in the dashes and in the quarter mile, and Harry Allen who has been doing the major part of the school's hurdling for the last four years, all finish track this spring. All three are four-letter men. The prospects for next year are the brightest that they have been in many seasons. Williams will return to carry on in the sprints, Nichols, Adams, and Anderson in the 440, Barlow at the mile, and Rushforth and Thornley at the jumps and javelin. All indications point to another championship team next season. VERL STROM He is recognized for his versatility, and has represented the school in hurdles, 880 and 440 yards. Two honor letters are rightfully chalked up to him. GEORGE FRANKS Sprinting speed, long endurance, and unfailing determination have made George an excellent 440 man. Being a four letter man, he leaves the track this spring. VERL WILDE Verl carries the school's hopes in the pole vault. Although only a freshman, he qualified to win his letter in every meet of the season. Two Hundred Eighty-one |
