Show DEBATE Four Rocky Mountain Conference championships and a second place winner in five years of coaching at Utah, numerous oratory and extempore championships, twenty-eight consecutive victories in decision debates, have produced an enviable record for coach La-verne Bane, whose ability and fellowship has won a place in the heart of every Utah debater. Laverne Bane Coach Rampton, Richards Dibble, Bybee Anderson, King Masaoka ^Uat^iti^ <=~2)el)ate In recognition of Utah's high rating as one of the finest debating teams in the west, the speeches of Omar Bunnel and Ray Owen, who successfully defended the Rocky Mountain Conference debate championship, were printed in "Debater' Annual," official yearbook of outstanding national intercollegi ate forensic achievements. The varsity debaters carried on a full program of debating throughout the year and displayed a highly successful participation, in such contests as the Wetern States Speech tournament, held during the Thanksgiving holidays; the Denver Invitational meet, in which Edward Sheya won first place in the speaking contest; the Utah-Idaho' tournament, in which they emerged triumphant. Several nationally famous teams, among them the University of Southern California, national Delta Sigma Rho champions; the Stanford, western states champions; the Pacific University, northwest champions; and the Willamette, Oregon State champions, visited the campus for debates. Those who' competed were Anderson, Bunnel, Bybee, Crookston, Dibble, Foutz, Frandsen, Gubler, Johnson, Jones, King, Masaoka, Miller, Murdock, Neilson, Olsen, Owen, Pace, Rampton, Richards, Roberts, Scott, Sheya, Tanner, and Welch.
