Show FRESHMAN FOOTBALL Conquering two opponents of the three they faced during a comparatively short playing season, the nineteen thirty-eight freshman team, finishing second in the state first year league, gives scintillating promise of supplying Coach Armstrong's future varsity ranks with an abundance of outstanding material. Opening their schedule against the Aggie yearlings late in October, the Papooses, led by Ras-mussen, Minton, and Captain Schleckman, played brilliantly against the stronger Logan team before losing a narrow 6-0 struggle. Weber Junior College proved an easy foe for the greenlings in their second trial. With Wirthlin, Hulse, and Buxton leading the offense, the Couch proteges amassed a 22-7 victory over their northern Utah adversary. In the finale, the frosh, paced by Wirthlin with fine work by Mecham and Berg, scored three touchdowns in the second half to build a lead that was never again relinquished. The relatively insignificant place these much buffeted players occupy in the football limelight, after they toil tediously throughout the autumn months, and oppose the battering varsity machine in pre-game workouts, is justly rewarded the following year when outstanding members of the green graduate to the regular squad of Utah's renowned Redskins.
