Show ATHLETICS Vadal Peterson Basketball Coach Guiding the Crimson through eight strenuous basketball seasons, Vadal Peterson has watched his proteges claim one conference championship, and finish as divisional runner-ups on numerous occasions. Although Utah teams have continually possessed potential strength equal to that of any opponent, "hard luck," the inevitable nemesis, persistently shatters their hopes for a more equal share in the distribution of titles. In addition to basketball duties, Peterson assists in track, and for many years has performed diligent work as scout against opposing football teams. Charles Welch Swimming Coach Eight divisional titles in as many years convincingly verifies the worth of tank mentor Welch. Producing a record equal to that of any coach in the country, the shrewd and unreserved "Charley" has contributed more in the interest of competitive swimming than any man in Utah. His unchallenged sagacity is appreciated even greater when it is considered that besides tutoring Redskin paddlers, Welch instructs three high school squads, and numerous elementary classes. In his diversity of duties, the talented mentor continually dominates the competition. Polo Coach Transferred to Utah from the Hawaiian Islands, Lieutenant Robert Cannon willingly took unusual interest in furthering polo as a minor sport at the university. Succeeding Captain Russel Snyder as coach, Cannon displayed a spirited attitude towards his assignment. Overcoming numerous obstacles such as lack of competition, playing facilities, and financial assistance, Cannon molded a highly creditable team from the enthusiastic riders who responded to his call early in the season. Inter-sectional clashes with Stanford were results of Cannon's work. Robert Cannon Two Hundred Forty-nin |
