Show Gun Caused All Muscles to Push CONFERENCE MEET DENVER STADIUM May 26, 1934 Although defending champion, Utah emerged from the two day battle with no more than a fourth place ribbon. Utah performed exceptionally well but could not harvest more than 36 points against the 66l/2 rolled up by the winning B.Y.U. team. The marks of the day were uniformly excellent despite a strong, disagreeable wind which proved to be a saviour to all records except the javelin. In this event Jack Thornley tossed the stick 197.3 feet to a new distance. Despite the wind, the day was sunny and each race proved to be a thriller. Ernie Barlow showed his stuff with a surprising but clear cut victory in the mile. Captain Herman Goldstein finished his track career by hanging up a 9.7 century. Ed Jeppson of Utah and Dudley of the "Y" resumed the season fight in the 440. The race was nip-and-tuck until the last 20 yards where Dudley was able to pull ahead to a slim but decisive victory.
