Show ATHLETICS Coach Ike Armstrong, chief director of the University of Utah athletic department, is recognized as one of the outstanding athletic leaders in the western states. Having developed many championship teams, and having formed a bond of friendship among all university athletes, he is esteemed as a man of genial personality, astute judgment, and rare ability of understanding and directing men. Each year he proves himself a more valuable force in the stadium and on the campus. Ike J. Armstrong, former assistant coach at Drake University, has repeatedly verified the wisdom of Utah's athletic officials since they engaged him in 1925 to assume the duties as athletic director of this institution. Eight football titles in ten years, including a consecutive six-year reign as undisputed sovereigns, have made the name of Armstrong, and the prowess of the Crimson, recognized by every college foe that competes against the combination. During the season of '33, the cagy head mentor directed his squad through a turbulent campaign to a triple tie for conference honors. The past season, although the Utes were toppled from their almost habitual Ihrcne when rebellious Colorado teams halted them with two defeats, the fame of the red and white spread from the Pacific coast to the Mississippi river when in two splendid intersectional clashes they definitely established themselves as sturdy opposition for any aggregation in the nation.
