Show Ute Rustlers Shift Sphere to Childs UTAH 25, 53 - B. Y. U. 54, 56 Led by three brilliant stars, Giles, Cannon, and Crowton, B.Y.U.'s sharp-shooting Cougars handed Utah's courageous but outclassed Redskins two defeats in the initial series of the Western Division race on January I 1-12. Remarkable accuracy at the basket, and a sturdy defense coupled with a swift, vicious offense were the deciding factors in the "Y" victories. In Friday's opening contest, the Crimson encountered almost invincible opposition, and with their scoring ace, "Spindly Bill" Kinner, tenaciously guarded by Cannon, watched the score mount to 54-25 before the final gun sounded. Giles led the devastating attack of the winners with twenty points. Saturday night in a complete reversal of form, Utah fought the surprised Cougars to a standstill in one of the most thrilling encounters ever witnessed at Provo. In a heated finish, B.Y. forged ahead to a 56-53 triumph. The work of Childs and Kinner at center, and the splendid rustling of forwards Miller and Larson were commendable features in the play of the improved Redskins. VIRGIL JAMES Virgil "Parson" James rightfully deserved a regular position. He was a bulwark on defense and a dangerous offensive threat once he got in scoring territory. DELMAR LARSON Swede proved that big things often come in little packages. Dynamic ball-hawking and agility in action featured the little blonde demon's successful year.
