Show Linesmen Pile up After Side Smash UTAH 61 - COLORADO COLLEGE 6 With an amazing display of reserve power, the cogent Crimson of Utah made a conspicuous entrance into Rocky Mountain conference play on October 6th with a smashing 61 to 6 massacre of a startled Tiger foe from Colorado College. Thrilling a crowd of 9,000 with deceptiveness and versatility remindful of the famous Utah "Juggernauts" of other seasons, the menacing Redskin horde swept aside their wavering opponents with nine touchdowns. Leading the offensive drive was the slippery mite, Newell Call, whose dazzling open field running was one of the highlights of the game. Bill Cowley, with a 63-yard dash through the entire Colorado College team, and triple-threat Delmar Larson, possessing an unerring passing arm, also shared in the honors. Gaining some consolation with an unexpected touchdown in the fading moments of the struggle, the Colorado team sent Riley into the end zone after he had snared a magnificent pass from Swartz. JOE SUMMERHAYS MICK CHEZ DAN SAVICH Expectant hopes that this converted end would develop into an outstanding backfield star were shattered when he received injuries that kept him out for the season. Chubby and brawny, Chez has shown power, speed, and all-around ability, and is expected to make an excellent showing on the gridiron in the future. Remarkable fortitude, constant aggressiveness, and tenacious line play made Savich one of the greatest guards ever to wear the crimson and white of Utah. Two Hundred Fifty-seven |
