Show Record includes San Juan, Grand, Carbon and Sanitate Counties, and I have lived at Monticello for a little more than ten years. Since mo-ving to Monticello I have traveled over the San Juan country in Utah and also the country around Moab and Green River quite a bit 5468 and have become familiar with certain conditions there. I am ac-quainted with the Elk Ridge, Blue Mountain and Lasal Mountain sec-tions and have seen the forests there, which are of rather large extent, consisting of yellow mountain pine on Elk Ridge and the Blue Mountains and quite a good deal of yellow pine on the Lasal Mountains. There is also some Engleman spruce and fir on the Blue Mountains. I know what the government report shows with 5469 reference to board feet of lumber in those forests, having had access to the report of the Forestry Department kept at the Forest Office at Moab. That report shows 171,560,000 board feet of lum-ber on the north and south division of what is known as the Lashal forest, of which amount 66,214,000 feet is western yellow pine; and on Elk Ridge there are 52,277,000 feet of Engleman spruce. On the Elk Ridge, Blue Mountain and Lasal Mountain combined there are 109,476,000 feet of western yellow pine. 5471- 5472 In a general way I have personal knowledge concerning min-eralized areas in San Juan and Grand Counties. I know mica when I see it and three years ago a friend of mine brought me some samples of what he claimed to be mica, which I submitted to the Bureau of Mines in Denver, where they were analyzed and I obtained a government report respecting mice in the United States. Acting on this report my friend filed on these claims, which are located on Montezuma Creek, San Juan Country, about ten or fifteen miles from the San Juan River. I do not know what quantities of uranium and vanadium have been shipped from the vicinity of Bluff, but I do know that in the ten years I have been there there has always been some mining for 5473 uranium and vanadium by a company known as the U. S. Uranium or 834 |
