Show Record two- horsepower motor belonging to Mr. Wetzell, from Greenriver to 5110 the Wolverton ranch. I was at the ranch eight days then came back up to Greenriver in the same boat. We did not have any difficulties or troubles of any 5111 character either on the down trip or coming up. no one got out of the boat at any time and we did not get stuck on any sand bars. There was one place where there was a little swift water, where the other river came in, but nothing to speak of. I have had ex-perience on other rivers. I was raised back in Ontario, Canada. I navigated the St. Lawrence, the La Shine River and the La Shine in Ontario and the Niagara River. I have operated boats on nearly every one of those rivers. I have run the rapids I spoke of three times, the first time with an Indian guide, and the second time 5112 I manipulated my own boat. In October, 1907, we went to Moab and had a boat built. I think it was about fourteen feet along and four and a half beam, flat bottom, light draft. We were going to use twin motors, but did not install any power in it. I operated it on the Colorado River. From Moab I went north, up stream, to a little above Jensen, and then right south and into the canyon south of town. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were with me. They each used pair of cars. I sculled with a single car. In going up stream or down stream along that stretch of the river we did not have any difficulty only at the mouth of the river that comes in there, where there was a swift current. I just made a long leg and cut the current. 5113 Emeline Coote testified on cross examination as follows: I arrived at Greenriver somewhere around the 20th of June. 5114 The trip I made on the Colorado River was in October, 1907. The same year only in October. Jensen is right on the river north of Moab, Jensen's ranch. It is about 12 or 13 miles above 5115 Moab. 763 |
