Show Record examination as follows: The two boats that took down the San Juan River, were taken for the purpose of using them as ferry boats. I traded with the Indians and brought them back and forth on the river. 4650 C. L. Christensen testified on re- direct examination as follows: We just used them, I think, for an experiment more than anything else. We took the supplies down. There would be wagons to take the Indian products up to Bluff, then when they came down they wouldn't come down empty, but would bring supplies down. we used the wagons both ways. I was Sheriff of San Juan county in 1902. Mr. H. T. Howland testified for defendant on direct examination as follows: 4651 I am the wife of Mr. H. T. Howland who has testified in this case. I came to Greenriver in 1893. I recall making a trip down to Valentine Bottom that year with my brother, Joe Ross. We went down to bring out the Valentine family. Mr. and Mrs. Valentine 4652 and their daughter. We went down in one row boat. We came back in one boat. There were five of us coming back. I do not recall any difficulties with sand bars or otherwise going down, and I really could not say coming back. I recall taking that trip with my husband and my family in 1910 from Greenriver over to Indian Creek. My recollection of that trip is substantially the same as my sons and my husband's. 4653 George H. Franz testified for defendant on direct examination as follows: I reside at Greenriver, Utah, and have resided there for 4654 twenty years. I am now a freight contractor. In 1921 I made a trip on the Green River from Greenriver down to the junction with some geologists, who wanted to study the 676 |
