Show Record and two of them were operating at the same time. The draft of the Punkin Seed with ordinary load was about 22 inches loaded. The Black boat was a shallower boat. Its draft 5016 was 18 or 19 inches loaded. It had propeller. They all had submerged propellers. There was not a great deal of difference in the draft of the Punkin Seed and the Black boat. It was owing to the load. 5017 The Black boat was lighter, not nearly as heavy. Defendant's Exhibit 25 is the Moab Garage Company's barge The party on it was a party of geologists and oil men. The picture was taken at a time a meal was being served. Defendant's Exhibit 24 is a picture of the Shafer No. 1 well. The machinery and equipment and lumber and structures shown in the picture got down there on the Moab Garage Company's barge. Defendant's Exhibits 24 and 25 were received in evidence. Defendant's Exhibit 26 shows a section of the Moab barge operating on the river. Defendant's Exhibit 16 was received in evidence. 5018 The boat that appears on the deck of the barge was just a small, square end canoe we hauled on the barge at that time. We put an Evinrude motor on it at times. I personally operated the barge on its maiden trip and I thinks one trip after that. I knew nothing about the channel of the river at that time. That was before I had begun taking trips with the lighter boats that I have referred to. We did not have any 5019 trouble on that first trip getting down with the barge to speak of. We left about eight in the morning and were down and unloaded by two o'clock that day. My brother, Virgil and my brother, Dennis, were along. They went ahead that trip with a small boat and sought out the way for us. We more or less followed the channel as they endeavored to map it out for us going ahead. After trip my brother Virgil, was practically in charge of the barge. I believe |
