Show Vanadium Company, which has a plant at what is known as Little Indian, Located about fifty miles from the San Juan River and a similar distance from the Grand River. For three years that com-pany employed about seventy- five men in their mining and refining operations, which as I recall ceased in 1926. 5474 I know of dry farming in San Juan County and I have dry farmed there. Until recent years the principal crop has been wheat and oats but there has been corn grown there for stock, and, during the last two or three years, they have been growing beans and potatoes on rather a large scale in that region, the ground being apparently suited particularly for growing beans and pota-toes. Those dry farms have always yielded well in winter wheat. 5475 I have known of three hundred bushels of potatoes being grown to the acre on these dry farms and believe I am safe in saying that three hundred bushels to the acre will be our average crop this year, although that is perhaps better than our average year. From my own experience I know that you can grow as much as two hundred bushels to the acre on these dry farms without irrigation most any year in that region. 5476- 5477 At this point defendant concluded its evidence, except that evidence of the date of the withdrawal of bottom lands below the town of Green River would be later received, as would also be evi-dence of the fact that the lands thus withdrawn had not been rein-stated or thrown open for settlement.
